Tropical Bali Retreats

One trip, three generations, three different paces — and nobody has to compromise.

Private Bali trips for groups of 6 to 12. A 60th, a 40th anniversary, or the first time everyone’s had the same two weeks free. Your own cars, your own guides, your own dates, and one price per person that covers the lot.

Built on The 14-Day Full Circle, run for your group only.

Who books this

Most of the private groups we run look like one of these three.

  • A 60th, and everyone's coming

Dad doesn't want a party in a function room. He wants his kids and grandkids around one table somewhere warm, with nothing to organise. We book the flights from each city, meet everyone at the airport by name, and drive them to the same villa.

  • A 40th anniversary, with the whole tribe

Forty years married, and the two of them want a proper trip, not a dinner. The grown-up kids chip in, the grandkids come along, and the couple never lift a finger. We can build a celebration dinner into the night that matters.

  • We've all finally got the same two weeks free

No occasion, just a rare gap in three households' calendars. Three sets of opinions about what a holiday is. That's exactly what the split-track days are for.

How a split-track day works

Most days, everyone's together. On the days where twelve people would never agree, we split into tracks. Here's how one of those days could look.

  • The grandparents

A slow morning and the spa

    1. 8:00amBreakfast whenever you're ready. There's no pick-up time, so nobody's watching the clock.
    2. 10:00amThe spa treatment that's part of your trip, at the hotel. No car, no walking, nothing to carry.
    3. 12:30pmLunch by the pool with whoever else stayed back. Then a nap, or a book in the shade.
    4. 3:00pmA guide and a car are yours if you'd like a short look at the water palace. Or not. Either is fine.
  • The parents

    Tirta Gangga before the heat

    1. 7:30amOut with your guide to Tirta Gangga, the water palace, early enough to have the pools mostly to yourselves.
    2. 9:30amCoffee at a warung above the rice terraces. Your guide orders, you sit, and the view does the rest.
    3. 11:30amBack to base for lunch, or a longer loop through the villages if you're enjoying it. Your call, on the day.
    4. 3:00pmYour afternoon. Pool, nap, a walk. Nothing scheduled, nowhere to be.
  • The teens

A surf lesson with an instructor

    1. 8:30amBreakfast, then their own car and guide to a beginner beach with a surf school.
    2. 9:30amA lesson with an instructor from the school. Boards and rash vests provided. Your guide stays on the sand the whole time.
    3. 12:00pmLunch at the beach. Then back to the villa, or another hour in the water if the parents say yes.
    4. 3:00pmPool, phones, and a nap they'll deny they had.

6:30pm Everyone's back at the villa. Dinner at one long table, and every track has a story the others weren't there for. That's the whole point.

Younger kids can spend the day with Bali Sunny Kids carers if you’d like them to, or tag along on whichever track suits. Nobody has to pick a track in advance. Most groups decide at breakfast. [[NEEDS INPUT: confirm the number of cars and guides provided on split-track days for a group of 12]]

Twelve people, three tracks, one day. It works because you’ve got three cars and three guides, not one bus. Each track has its own driver, its own English-speaking guide, and my number. Nobody sits in a car park waiting for the others to finish.

Different paces, one price

You don't pay more for doing more, and you don't pay less for doing less. Everyone's on the same per-person rate whichever track they pick, on whichever day.

Rest days are real

The 14-day has 3 full rest days built in. Nothing is scheduled. The pool is there, the car is there, and so is your guide if a few of you want a run into the village. Most groups use them to do nothing at all, and that’s the point.

No early starts unless you want them

Every morning is optional. The 7:30 temple run is for whoever’s up. Everyone else has breakfast at nine and joins in at lunch. Nobody waits in a hotel lobby for anybody.

The car goes back whenever you do

If Grandad’s done at eleven, a car takes him back to the villa and the rest carry on. With three cars, you never have to choose between one person’s knees and everyone else’s day.

Pace and mobility

Gentle

Longest walk on this trip:
about 1.2km on mostly flat ground at Tirta Gangga, with benches along the way [[NEEDS INPUT: confirm]]
Time on your feet
Most days involve less than 20 minutes on your feet at any one time.

From a group who did it

On three generations with three different paces

Eleven of us, from my mum to a four-year-old, for my dad's birthday. Some days we split up and some days we didn't, and every night we all sat down to dinner together. That was the whole point.

Questions private groups ask

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, ring us and ask.

Is there a minimum group size for a private trip?

Six people. Under six, you're better off joining a public departure. With a cap of 12 guests it's already a small group, and you can still add a celebration dinner to it.

The top end is 12, the same as every trip we run. That isn't a marketing number. It's the most people we can move in three cars and seat at one table without anyone shouting down the far end. If you're a person or two over, ring us before you assume it won't work. [[NEEDS INPUT: policy for groups over 12, if any]]

We're a mix of couples, singles and kids. How do the rooms work?

Couples get a double. Adults travelling on their own can share a twin with another adult in the group, with no supplement, or have their own room and pay the single supplement. That's [[NEEDS INPUT: single supplement]], and we say it up front rather than hide it.

Kids go in family rooms or interconnecting rooms where the property has them, so they're through a door rather than down a corridor. If you'd rather have the whole group under one roof, an exclusive-use villa does exactly that, and you decide who sleeps where. Tell us who's coming on the form and we'll send you a room plan before you pay a cent.

Mum uses a walking stick and my brother-in-law runs marathons. Can you cope with both?

Yes. That's what this trip is built for. On split-track days the two of them are on different tracks, and on the days everyone's together the car goes back to base the moment anyone's had enough, while the rest carry on.

The longest walk on the 14-day is about 1.2km on mostly flat ground at Tirta Gangga, with benches along the way [[NEEDS INPUT: confirm]]. Most days involve less than 20 minutes on your feet at any one time. Tell us about knees, hips and sticks on the form and we'll book ground-floor rooms where the property has them. If anyone in the group uses a wheelchair, ring us before you book so we can be straight with you about which stays and stops work and which don't.

Twelve people, four diets. Is that a problem?

No. Coeliac, diabetic, vegetarian, halal, a toddler who only eats white food. We collect everyone's requirements once, before you fly, and your guide briefs every kitchen before you sit down.

Most of the places we eat are family-run and cook to order, which is easier for dietary needs than a hotel buffet ever is. Breakfast at the hotels is the one meal where you'll be choosing for yourself, and there's always a plain option. If anyone has a serious allergy, put it on the form and we'll talk it through on the phone, because we'd rather over-prepare than find out at the table.

How far ahead do we need to book a private group?

The honest answer is: earlier than you think. [[NEEDS INPUT: recommended lead time for private groups, e.g. 6 to 9 months]] gives you the most choice.

Three things take the time. Flights for up to twelve people from two or three different cities, sitting together where it matters. Exclusive-use villas, which go early in the dry season from April to October. And the people in your group, who all need to say yes to the same dates.

If your date's closer than that, ring anyway. It sometimes works, and we'd rather tell you straight than have you wonder.

Plan your private group trip

This isn't a booking. It's the start of a conversation with [[NEEDS INPUT: founder first name]], who'll tell you honestly whether the dates work and what it will cost.

Worth including

  • The occasion, if there is one, and the date that matters
  • Rough dates, or the window everyone has free
  • Who's coming: how many adults, how many kids and their ages
  • Anyone with mobility or health needs we should plan around
  • Which cities everyone would fly from

Or ring. [[NEEDS INPUT: phone number]], Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm AEST. Groups are easier to sort out in ten minutes on the phone than in ten emails.

Tell us about your group

Name and email are the two we need to reply. The rest helps us give you a straight answer first time.

Optional. Handy if you’d rather we rang you.

Adults, and children with their ages. For example: 2 adults, 2 kids (6 and 9).

Mobility, dietary needs, who’s celebrating what. Anything at all.

No call centre and no mailing list. Your enquiry goes straight to [[NEEDS INPUT: founder first name]], who reads every one.
